Resolution of Endorsement

 

WHEREAS, Lion Michael “Mike” Rourke, a Charter member of the San Antonio Edgewood Lions Club, has given 28 years of exemplary service to our community, District 2-A2, Multiple District 2 Texas and Lions Clubs International; and,

WHEREAS, Lion Mike has served our club as President, Secretary, Secretary-Treasurer and Director and continues to give his valued direction to our service goals and having been recognized by receiving all club awards including “Lion of the Year”, 100% President’s award, 100% Secretaries award, the first club member to be recognized as a progressive Melvin Jones Fellow, a Jack Weich Fellow, a Lions Low Vision Fellow and the only member to be known as “Mr. Edgewood Lion”, and is also a Life Member of Lions Clubs International, the Past District Governors Association of Texas, the Texas Lions Camp and the Lions Sight Research Foundation; and,

WHEREAS, in his years of service, has held five Multiple District 2 Texas positions and twenty-eight District Cabinet positions and while serving as Council Chairman was instrumental in having the Lions of Texas put forth an officer candidate for the first time in over 20 years.  This effort will be realized when the Lions of the World elect Lion Jimmy Ross as our International President. For his leadership skills, foresight and dedication, Lion Mike served as an appointee of President Kay K. Fukushima as Impact Coordinator for Texas and during this 3 year appointment, Texas showed an extension growth of over 50 clubs.  In recognition of his numerous efforts to serve through Lionism, he has been honored by his fellow Lions by being named as a member of the Texas Lions Hall of Fame and is a Charter Member of the Herb C. Petry – District 2-A2 Hall of Fame. Lion Mike has also been recognized as a 100% Governor and has received the Governor’s Excellence Award and was further recognized by International Presidents James Coffey and  Dr. Jean Bejar with the International Presidents’ Medal of Merit Award; and,

WHEREAS, Lion Michael “Mike” Rourke serves at the current time as International Liaison for the District, Vice Chairman of the District 2-A2 Lions Sight Research Foundation and Secretary for the Lions Low Vision Center of Texas and continues to share his leadership skills in promoting these major service projects throughout our District, Multiple District and Lions International.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the membership of the San Antonio Edgewood Lions Club, being a club in good standing in District 2-A2 and Lions International, commend his service to the Lions of this District, Multiple District 2 Texas and Lions Clubs International; and,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the membership of this club does hereby certify that Lion Michael “Mike” Rourke does meet all of the requirements as a candidate for the high office of Director of the International Association of Lions Clubs and does hereby authorize the Club Secretary to certify his candidacy at the May, 2006, District 2-A2 Convention being held in Kerrville, Texas, and we further ask the Lions of this great District to support his service with their unanimous endorsement.

ADOPTED, this 30th.day of November, 2005, by unanimous vote of the Officers, Directors and general membership of the San Antonio Edgewood Lions at its regularly scheduled meeting and to transmit the necessary copies of said resolution to the District Governor, Vice District Governor and Cabinet Secretary.
